Chemical Management
Crasus Chemical is voluntarily conducting surveys on the release and transfer of chemical substances with a view to reducing their release. Also, in order to ensure chemical safety, we are proactively working for the comprehensive management of chemical substances throughout the stages from R&D and design to manufacture, sales, distribution, use and disposal.
Chemical Management Policy
The Crasus Chemical Group will:
- Continuously review and improve its business activities to reduce the risks posed by chemicals throughout their life cycles from development through to disposal.
- Assess the impact of chemicals on human health and safety and on the environment and appropriately share the related information to ensure the safe use and handling of chemicals both within and outside the Group.
- Further reduce the release of chemicals and promote the sustainable development of society in harmony with the global environment.
- Comply with international rules and related domestic laws and regulations to ensure the appropriate management of chemicals in both domestic and overseas businesses as well as in the transfer of technologies.
- Provide employees with education to help raise their awareness and knowledge of chemical management and foster the establishment of a system and infrastructure to ensure the effective implementation of chemical management measures.
Controlling the Release of Chemical Substances
-
For the substances subject to the so-called PRTR* law of Japan, we conduct surveys on their release and transfer and report the results to the national government and the Japan Chemical Industry Association. Based on the survey results, we have made equipment-related improvements at the Oita Complex,, including installing abatement and combustion equipment. We have also been continuously implementing measures to reduce the release and transfer of the regulated substances while improving on-site operation and management skills.
* PRTR: Stands for pollutant release and transfer register. The PRTR system is implemented under the so-called PRTR law to collect, tabulate and publicly disclose data about the sources of various hazardous chemical substances, the amount of these substances released into the environment, and the off-site transfer of such substances contained in waste. The PRTR law mandates the reporting of these data.
Chemical Safety
Based on the revision of the Industrial Safety and Health Act of Japan concerning the regulation of chemical substances, we newly appointed a person in charge of the management of chemical substances and a person in charge of protective equipment management for the improvement and enhancement of our chemical substance management system. Also, when using a new chemical substance, we conduct surveys based on the in-house rules to ensure the safety of personnel handling the substance and to assess its impact on the surrounding environment.
Establishing a database of chemical substance management information
We established and have been using a database of information about the hazardousness of chemical substances contained in raw materials and products handled at the Oita Complex. We are also utilizing the database system to make reports to the related government agencies and issue safety data sheets (SDS).
