Crasus Chemical is introducing smart technologies that contribute to safety, stability and security in production.

Introduction of Soft Sensors

We started to use a soft sensor-equipped control system for the statistical analysis-based estimation of properties that cannot be continuously analyzed on-site. Presently, at least 30 soft sensors are in operation at our plant. These sensors contribute to the highly efficient, safe and stable operation of the plant by enabling us to monitor properties that cannot be checked visually.

Introduction of Drones

While scaffolding is set up for inspections at a high place, conducting such inspections this way takes time and poses safety risks. Recently, thanks to the advancement of drone technology, drones have been used for inspections at high places and other sites where hazards are present. This has also proven to be time-consuming and costly, however, making it difficult for us to use drones to capture images for inspection purposes. In response, we conducted an experimental trial using an autonomous navigation drone in December 2023. In the trial, we specified an aerial route and image capture spots on a 3D model of the Oita Complex (also prepared by using a drone) in advance, and then on the day of the trial released the drone to fly the specified route and capture images at the designated spots. Going forward we will examine the feasibility of conducting autonomous drone navigation-based regular safety patrols.

On-site Use of Smart Devices

Until recently, the use of general electronic devices (non-explosion-proof electronic devices) at the Oita Complex was prohibited under prefectural regulations. In 2024, however, as a result of ongoing discussions with the prefectural government and the municipal government of Oita City, we were permitted to carry out experimental trials on the use of such devices at the Complex on the precondition of ensuring safety. We are presently conducting trials on the on-site use of smart phones and will conduct additional examinations for greater work efficiency.
