Crasus Chemical is implementing the following measures to conduct business activities in harmony with the environment.
- Environmental Policy
- Environmental Management System
- Environmental Audit
- Management Based on the Pollution Prevention Agreement
- Measures to Reduce Environmental Impact on Air and Water Quality
Environmental Policy
The Crasus Chemical Group will conduct business activities in harmony with the environment based on its Purpose, “Support lives today and tomorrow with Chemistry,” and will work to pass down natural capital to future generations for the creation of a sustainable society in line with the following environmental policy.
- We will comply with environmental laws and regulations and work for the continuous improvement of our environmental management systems.
We will comply with environmental laws and regulations and foster environmental protection across our business activities through the continuous improvement of our internal audit and environmental management systems. - We will work to reduce our environmental impact and prevent environmental pollution and incidents.
We will work to make efficient use of energy and water resources, manage chemical substances, reduce waste, prevent pollution, and build a system to prevent environmental incidents and make appropriate responses to contingencies. - We will work in good faith to implement anti-climate change measures.
We will set our greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets and implement measures to achieve them in a planned manner, thereby contributing to the mitigation of climate change. - We will work for the creation of a recycling-oriented society and for symbiosis with nature.
We will conduct recycling activities throughout the life cycles of our products, make effective use of resources, and strive for the conservation of biodiversity and natural capital. - We will collaborate with society, raise the environmental awareness of employees, and work for the creation of a sustainable society with customers.
We will enhance collaboration with local communities and customers, provide environmental education to all employees to raise their environmental awareness and ability to take actions, and promote the development of environment-friendly products.
Environmental Management System
The Oita Complex of Crasus Chemical and the Oita Works and Kawasaki Works of SunAllomer Ltd., which is a Crasus Chemical Group company, have obtained certification for their environmental management systems and are using these systems to appropriately reduce and manage environmental risks. The bases have also been continuously improving and updating their environmental management systems to further reduce the risk of environmental pollution and associated management risks, and the systems are regularly inspected by external certification organizations for the maintenance and renewal of the certification. Moreover, for the management of the systems, each of the bases is executing an across-the-board PDCA cycle in an integrated manner and revitalizing the related activities.
Environmental Audit
-
The Oita Complex has a 24-hour monitoring system for wastewater, air, odor and noise. If an abnormal value is detected by the system, necessary measures will be implemented, including the patrolling of the area in question and the examination of the on-site situation based on the reports submitted by each of the plants. Moreover, real-time measurement is conducted for soot and smoke, including NOx*1 and SOx*2, and the obtained data are automatically sent to Oita City’s telemeter system.
*1 NOx: Substance used as an indicator of hazardous air pollution. Emitted through the oxidation of atmospheric nitrogen caused by the combustion of fuel and waste. Said to cause photochemical smog.
*2 SOx: Substance used as an indicator of hazardous air pollution. Emitted through the combustion of sulfur-containing fuel. Has impacts on respiratory organs.

Management Based on the Pollution Prevention Agreement
We have been complying with the pollution prevention agreement that was concluded with Oita Prefecture and Oita City on December 16, 1974 to prevent environmental degradation and help maintain the health and protect the living environment of Oita citizens. Specifically, we have been keeping environmental values related to air, wastewater, odor, noise and vibration below the limits set in the agreement, which are more stringent than the limits set by environmental laws and regulations, by measuring them regularly as specified in the agreement. We regularly report the values to the prefectural and municipal governments.
Measures to Reduce Environmental Impact on Air and Water Quality
Measures to reduce environmental impact on air quality
-
In order to reduce the emission of soot and dust including NOx and SOx, we have been installing environmental impact reduction equipment, promoting fuel conversion, improving the combustion method, operating and managing desulfurization and denitration equipment appropriately, and recovering waste heat to reduce the use of fuel.
Measures to reduce environmental impact on water quality
-
For the reduction of environmental impact on water quality, specifically to reduce COD*, total nitrogen and total phosphorous, we are implementing measures including those to appropriately operate and manage our wastewater treatment facilities and to make circulative use of water.
* Chemical oxygen demand (COD): Used as an indicator of the degree of pollution caused by organic matter in drainage. Indicates the amount of oxygen required to oxidize all organic compounds contained in a water sample.
